Meta Business Verification: How to Do It, Step by Step
If you want to move to the WhatsApp Business API or turn on certain Meta features, business verification comes up. If you prepare properly, the process goes smoothly; a mismatch in the company name or document gets the application sent back. We cover the steps, the documents and the rejection reasons in order.
Meta business verification means Meta confirming that "this business really exists and the person managing this account is connected to it". You run into it when moving to the WhatsApp Business API or turning on some ad and developer features. The process is not hard. But a single letter of difference between the company name on the document and the one on the form can bounce your application back for days. Below we go through the steps, the documents requested and the rejection reasons we meet most often.
What is Meta business verification, and who needs it?
According to Meta's own help page, business verification is required for your business portfolio (formerly Business Manager) to access certain advertising, developer, billing and spending features. On the WhatsApp side too, it is the way to prove your business's identity to Meta. If you want to know what the API is and how it differs from the app, take a look at our article What is the WhatsApp Business API.
Not everyone can start verification whenever they want. If your portfolio isn't eligible at that moment, you will see "Ineligible for verification" in Security Center. This is not an error. It shows that you are not yet using a product that requires verification; when you move to such a product, Meta can direct you by email or from that product's own screen.
Verification does not give you a badge. Meta states plainly that business verification is different from the paid Meta Verified subscription and does not bring a badge. The official badge on WhatsApp is a separate application; we covered the details in our green tick guide.
What should you prepare before you start?
Most applications get stuck not on screen but at the preparation stage. Don't press "start" before completing this list:
- Full control access: You need to have full control, the highest level of access in the business portfolio. If you can't see Security Center at all, this is most likely the reason.
- Legal business details: Official company name, address, phone number and website. All of them must match your official documents exactly.
- A working website with HTTPS: Meta wants the site to load and the address to start with https://.
- An official document: A current document issued by a government authority that shows your company name and address.
- A verification channel you can access: A business email, a phone line or the domain settings of your website.
Which documents work in Turkey?
In countries where document requirements are not defined separately, Meta asks for government documents that verify the legal name and address. In Turkey, a tax certificate (vergi levhası) usually meets this requirement; a Trade Registry Gazette announcement or a chamber activity certificate are also official documents that show the company name and address. Because the list of accepted documents can change, always check the current list on the application screen.
Things change a little if you choose phone verification. In that case you need a document that also shows the phone number, and a bill that doesn't have the business name on it is not enough. Meta gives this specifically as an example.
There is also the matter of language. Meta accepts documents only in certain languages; if your document's language is not supported, it asks for an English translation bearing the official stamp of a translation agency.
How do you do Meta business verification, step by step?
This is the current flow on Meta's help page for a desktop browser. Menu and button names may be translated differently in other interface languages, so we use the names as they appear in English.
- Go to Security Center. Open Security Center in Meta Business Suite.
- Start verification. Click the "Start verification" button.
- Enter the business details. Legal name, address, phone number and website. Write exactly what your tax certificate says; even the difference between an abbreviation and the full spelling can break the match.
- Confirm the details. If Meta finds your business in its records, you select it from the list. If it can't, continue with "My business isn't listed" or "None of these match" and upload your official document.
- Choose the connection method. The options are email, phone call, SMS, WhatsApp message and domain verification. With domain verification, you show that the site belongs to you by adding a meta tag or a DNS record to your site.
- Confirm the connection and submit. Enter the code or complete the domain step, then click "Done". A confirmation screen appears showing your application was received.
Which verification method should you choose?
In short: choose based on who will actually receive the code, and where. Waiting during the application for a code that goes to your accountant's or partner's line only drags the process out. If your site is managed by an agency and you will choose domain verification, set up DNS or code access in advance. If you choose phone, make sure the number matches what is written on the document.
What happens after you apply, and how long does it take?
Meta allows up to 14 business days for a decision. You get a notification when the review ends; you can also follow the status from Security Center. If you are verified, there is nothing else you need to do.
Sometimes Meta asks for additional information or documents. If you don't respond to that request within a week, you have to start the process over, so don't miss notifications. When it can't verify the business with documents, it may also ask for the administrator's ID.
If you change the details, you go back to the start. If you edit the business details after verification, you need to verify again. If an address or company name change is on the way, finish that first. Giving false or misleading information, on the other hand, can lead to verification being blocked or removed.
Why do applications get rejected? Common reasons
The reasons Meta lists on its troubleshooting page largely overlap with what we see in the field. The table below summarizes how to fix each one.
| Reason for rejection | What should you do? |
|---|---|
| Document type not accepted | Upload an official document from the list of accepted documents that shows your company name and address. |
| The document is a form you filled in yourself | Application forms without an authority's signature or stamp don't pass. Upload a certified, signed or stamped document. |
| Document is unreadable | Rescan a small, blurry or corrupt file at a higher resolution. |
| Document has expired | Get a document with a current validity date. |
| Company name doesn't match or isn't on the document | Make the name in your business settings identical to the document, letter for letter. |
| Address is missing or different | Upload a document that shows the full address and the company name together. |
| Phone number isn't on the document | Submit a document where the company name and phone number appear together, or choose another verification method. |
| Document language not supported | Add an English translation with a translation agency's stamp. |
If your application is rejected, it isn't over. In some cases Meta lets you appeal the decision; read the reason for rejection in Security Center and try again with the missing piece fixed.
Don't run the application on your own. We take you through the process together, from Meta verification to WhatsApp setup.
Book a free demoWhat does Chatopya do in this process?
For businesses that move to the WhatsApp Business API through Chatopya, we handle Meta business verification and the application on the business's behalf. We prepare the application with your tax certificate and brand details and stay with you at every step. Chatopya is a Meta-approved Tech Provider and a Meta business partner; setup and training are free, and we have a Turkish-speaking support team.
So how long does the technical part take? Dashboard setup takes about 5 minutes. If your number has never been registered with Meta before, Meta's own review time is added on top. You can also move your existing number; in that case the WhatsApp Business app on your phone closes on that number and old chats are not carried over. If you prefer, we start from scratch with a new number. Details are on our WhatsApp Business API page.
Frequently asked questions
How long does Meta business verification take?
Meta allows up to 14 business days for a decision after you submit the application. If additional documents are requested, you need to respond within a week, otherwise the process starts over.
What document is needed for Meta business verification?
A current, official document that shows your legal company name and address. For businesses in Turkey this is usually the tax certificate; a Trade Registry Gazette announcement or an activity certificate are also among the options that show the name and address.
Does business verification give a blue tick or a green tick?
No. Meta states that business verification does not give a badge. There are separate applications for badges, and they have their own criteria.
It says "Ineligible for verification". What should I do?
It means your portfolio is not currently using a feature that requires verification. When you move to a product that requires verification, Meta can direct you by email or from that product's screen.
Is a website required for verification?
Meta asks for website details in the application and expects the site to load and run over HTTPS. If you don't have a site, or its certificate is missing, we recommend fixing that before applying.
